Perfect blend of entertainment and awe-inspiring moments
Odd Mob took the stage after an intermission, and they absolutely captivated me. They had me on a high well into the rest of the week with two hours of amazingness. They came on around 9pm, and by the time they did an encore, it was around 11pm. This group is so stripped down, and for me, it was the purest form of music. They used no back track or any other instrument other than their voices, with the exception of one song. Each of them has such a unique place in the band, and there wasn’t one person taking every lead vocal. Kirstin beautiful, smooth vocals forever entranced me, Scott’s gorgeous soulful tone, Mitch’s INSANE falsetto (mind-blowing), and new-comer Matt’s rich, deep, blanket-like bass. Kevin is a man in his own league. You almost take for granted that the beats supporting the singers is ONE PERSON.
The visuals, lights, set, etc were pretty cool too. Vibrant with color and plenty to look at, the visuals went beautifully with their set. They had you hesitant to look away. My favorite songs of the night in their set were “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “Havana,” “Can’t Sleep Love,” “On My Way Home,” and the ethereal and haunting “Valentine.” The music was so powerful and I could feel it reverberating in my chest. For their encore, they did “Run to You,” which is one of the older pieces. They dropped the mics, dropped the flashy set, and stripped it down to literally, just their voices. It was so quiet in this huge arena that I swear you could hear a pin drop. So beautiful. They wrapped up the night with an amazing rendition of Hallelujah that showcased each person’s gift. One of the best concerts I’ve ever been to in my life, and I would jump on tickets if they came back to my area.
First off, I have to say that Odd Mob was a pleasant surprise. They were FANTASTIC! They had such great, positive, infectious energy that had me wondering why I don’t own every record they’ve done. They had just had a baby, and was drunk on the happy elixir that only new motherhood brings. They were sweet, and raw and emotional, and full of love for us, their audience. I ADORED them at this performance, and was sad when their short set ended.
